An excellent range extension. About Piccini:
Established in the 1882 by Angiolo Piccini, Piccini Winery is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone and has strong Tuscan traditions. To this day, Piccini remains the largest producer of D.O.C.G. Chianti. The estate is covers more than 230 hectares; 76 hectares of Chianti Classico vineyards, composed of 95 percent Sangiovese and five percent Cabernet Sauvignon. In the remaining part olives and cereals are cultivated. The vineyards are at as high as 350-400 metres altitude, with a terroir most suitable for the production of high level quality wines.
The Packaging:
In terms of bottle and label, this package says exactly what it is - European - and with a name like Piccini, probably Italian. The bright yellow label will make sure it stands out on the shelf or on promotional displays. However, close inspection reveals a front label in Italian with the designation Toscana IGT pretty meaninless to most Kiwi wine drinkers. The back label saves the day with a brief description in English, complete with spelling mistake. The Wine:
A very tasty drop, rather refined wine of medium body and plenty of good savoury flavours. It's not a fruit bomb - it does have very pleasant pepper and leather flavours that will complement most summer fare very well. Its easy tannins ensure it will enjoy wide appeal too. One to recommend, but remind customers that they will enjoy it best with food.
