Organic wine is produced from organically grown grapes without use of artificial pesticides or fertilisers. Organic vineyards are often inter-planted with herbs and flowers in contrast to the barren appearance of non organic vineyards. This is part of the natural way to maintain soil qualities and healthy vineyards, which is reflected in the quality of wines. Winemakers are allowed to use tiny amounts of sulphur dioxide as a preservative and minimal fining and filtration. Some vinters only use wild yeasts for fermentation. Such wines may not age as well but this is compensated by the fuller and the sometimes “wilder” palate.
All the ERA and La Natura wines are certified organic by ICEA (Instituto per la Certificazione Etica ed Ambientale - the most prominent certifying body in Italy.)
