Prodotti d’Italia was established in 1992 by Rupert Kurghan, specialising initially in the importation of Italian foods and then later adding Italian wines to the portfolio. As the love of all things Italian has grown in New Zealand, so too has Prodotti d’Italia as a company.
Working closely with our key suppliers, we source food and wines to supply both restaurants, supermarkets and independent retail stores. This includes ingredients for chefs to use in a wide range of restaurants as well as products for home cooking and home entertaining. We specialise primarily in dry and preserved foods - pasta, rice, jars of delicious antipasti - as well as offering a wide range of Italian olive oils and balsamic vinegars. For restaurants, we can supply either direct or through your local distributor. For cooking at home, you will find most of our products throughout New Zealand in your nearest supermarket or specialist food store or delicatessen.
On the wine side, we represent wineries from various regions around Italy. From the much loved and revered Tuscan wines, to the new, exciting, full flavoured wines from Puglia and Sicily in the South. Piccini the family owned company based in Tuscany offer a wide range of Chiantis, as well as the award winning Tegole Sangiovese. They are now also working on projects in Sicily. Girelli, another family owned company have developed the Canaletto range, which offers a range of wines from various regions around Italy. These award winning wines give you the opportunity to try new Italian styles, with the assurance of quality from this dedicated team.
FAC cups are used throughout New Zealand in most restaurants and cafes. From the land of coffee loves, these Italian cups are produced to enhance your coffee experience by retaining plenty of heat, thus keeping your coffee steaming hot, and are very durable for everyday wear and tear. Available in several colours and shapes, they add style to your café and look great with your own name or logo printed onto them.

Rupert Kurghan
Rupert is the owner of the company and as a lover of all things Italian saw a niche in the NZ market for these delicious products. He was the 1st to introduce orzo rice to NZ – now a staple product in most people’s pantries! Apart from his love of Italy, Rupert is a keen Endurance rider and has represented NZ on several occasions in this formidable sport.
